About Don’s Drive In located in Traverse City, Michigan:
Don’s Drive In was started back in 1958 when Cars were large, had fins and came in bright colors and pastels. It was located across the two lane state highway from East Bay, an arm of Lake Michigan. Back then it was really out in the country a drive from Downtown Traverse City so like so many other American Diners it was the perfect place to Cruise to meet your friends and hang out.
Today, Don’s Drive-In is in the same 
place it has always been but the city has come to Don’s. The state highway is now 5 lanes with a convenient left turn lane that puts you right in Don’s parking lot. While the old cars still come to Don’s as it is a favorite place to cruise. The parking lot today is filled with mini-vans and SUV’s bring a new generation of kids to try the food that is so perfect it has hardly changed in over 50 years. Burgers, dogs, french fries, and shakes is what Don’s Drive In is known for but there is also award winning soups and chili, chicken fingers, BLT’s grilled cheese, hoagies and fish sandwiches. The sides include curly seasoned fries, breaded mushrooms, breaded onion rings, potato salad, cottage cheese and lettuce and tomato salad. But save room for desert there is ice cream, pie, and of course there are always those fabulous milk shakes.
